NL.CLL.1.3 Use a variety of verbal and non-verbal communication strategies to ask memorized questions and express ideas or thoughts with prompting and modeling
NL.CLL. 2.1 Understand the meaning of simple, spoken greetings, words, and phrases, when accompanied by visual clues and/or prompts, as needed.

NL.CLL.4.3 Recognize examples of cognates and loan words.

Objective: Understand the various ways Latin came into English and identify English derivatives from Latin word meanings. 

EQ. How can attention to derivatives from Latin grow your English vocabulary? How can you use a dictionary to locate the Latin roots of English words?

Independent or with a partner. Finish Word Study I assignment pages 22-23 in textbook (or go directly to Google Classroom)

For dictionary work: use the Merriam-Webster dictionaries on the shelf at the back of the room or use Dictionary.com and/or Etymology Online.

Write your answers on your own paper. We will then check your answers in class. Take a picture of you work. Then post it in Google Classroom or email it to gillmagistra@gmail.com. Each student must submit their own work.

Next do the "Latin Connection" worksheet on Spanish, French and English derivatives of common words. Finish for homework if you don't finish it in class.

Homework: Study vocabulary for Chapter 04 and body parts.
